Mobility Shield

Open Source and Hardware robotics platform

Similar projects worth following
The Mobility Shield project aims to bring a simple tool to make robots or other things (cars, cranes, quadcopters, spaceships =P, ...) in a simple way for all ages.

Mobility Shield project born from my passion for robotics, I started this project in 2012 but in the absence of my actual 3D printer and the amount of time it takes me my college education, I never could start this project.

Mobility Shield Builder (or “MS Builder”) (Link)

Is an online parts generator. With “MS Builder” you can customize pieces to generate an *.stl file for print using a 3D printer. To generate the parts I'm using the open-software openJsCAD (GitHub - Wiki).

Backlog

- Add more parts.

- I working to add the function to generate *.dxf files to make parts with a laser cut.

Tip: If you want to print the parts I recommend printing large parts with PLA to prevent warping.

Electronics

I'm working on a shield for arduino and a control board based on Arduino easy to connect all sensors and actuators (this part is not as important as the "MS Builder" but for inexperienced people will help a lot to create things =)

PD: Sorry for my English.

  • Testing the actual measures and new parts

I’m currently testing the current measures as standard mounting for M3 screws (each person can personalize their measures).

Actual hole spacing is 12 mm but I think if I use 14 mm the pieces will stay stronger and easier assembly with M3 screws.

    First test pieces

    Regards and happy hacking!

Please say you are still working on this project - it is amazing, and will help many people such as myself who need assistance with parts for projects!

Great idea JRodrigo! A standard, extensible, 3D printable platform for building robots is awesome! We've all had vex, Lego, and other projects look great on paper, but blow the budget when it comes time to price all the parts! Have you released the source for your builder website? The more open the better your chance of getting to Space!
