The HandyPhone is a cellphone that fits on your wrist. The speaker is a bone conductor transducer mounted on the wrist, when the pointer and middle fingers are raised to the ear the audio is conducted to the ear. The brains is an Adafruit Flora microcontroller, and the GSM Module will be the Adafruit FONA. For the LCD screen I am using Adafruit's 2.2" TFT with ILI9340 driver.

Diagram of HandyPhone (slightly out of date, FLORA should be Pro Trinket):

  • 1 × Wired Miniature Electret Microphone Adafruit PID: 1935
  • 1 × Membrane 3x4 Matrix Keypad + extras - 3x4 Adafruit PID: 419
  • 1 × Adafruit FONA - Mini Cellular GSM Breakout uFL Version - v1 Adafruit PID: 1946
  • 1 × Adafruit Pro Trinket - 5V 16MHz Adafruit PID: 2000
  • 1 × Lithium Ion Polymer Battery - 3.7v 1200mAh Adafruit PID: 258

This is what the design was going to be before I changed it, for anyone that is interested.

This a slightly out of date image of the layout of the device. I have replaced the flora with a Pro Trinket and moved it from the bottom to the upper enclosure. The mic is also not pictured.

I am changing the design of the HandyPhone as suggested by Paul_Beaudet. I will be removing the speaker and replacing it with a Bone Conductor Transducer on the wrist. The mic will also be moved from the pinky finger to the back of the wrist. The phone will no longer be mounted on a glove, but will be completely contained on the wrist.

Would like to suggest "stealling" my idea using the bone conducting speaker on the wrist. You might need to add the amp for it. Transfers the sound right to the thumb no awkward glove needed. Mic works fine from the wrist too. Was considering tackeling this one, but if I get the fona I'll probably use it in Neotype instead! Can help with a write up for the learning system if you like, wanted to do one for the handphone project.

That is a great idea! I think I might use it. I would have to change the name of the project however... Thanks for the comment!

This is really a fun type of device to take to out to events! really should where mine more often. It is a chalenge to make it easy to put on and be comfortable. Right now I'm working on a haptic watch that has a similar chalenge. I'll do a log about it in the future.
