This contest has ended and the winners have been announced! Thank you all for participating!

TL;DR

Phase 1 ends June 1st: We'll ship 50 people free kits and cloud credits! Submit an IoT project idea that uses one of Cypress’ PSoC® 6 Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Dev Kits and a cloud service such as AWS or another of your choosing. Please make sure to, in your project page submission, answer the 4 project application questions outlined below (under Here’s How To Apply (Phase 1)).

Phase 2 ends August 25th at 10am PDT: Build your IoT project using the Cypress PSoC® 6 Dev Kit and connecting it to AWS IoT. Submit a Hackaday.io project page by 8/25 to be eligible to win one of the grand prizes.

Together with Cypress, Digi-Key, and AWS IoT – Hackaday is proud to present the

Change the Planet with PSoC® IoT Design Contest

IoT devices worldwide are truly changing the planet. From turning on your AC while at the grocery store to come home to a cool household, to remotely monitoring valuable assets in a factory warehouse – the applications IoT developers all over the world are building are ever evolving.

In this design contest, the Hackaday community is challenged to design an IoT system that will change the planet using the Cypress PSoC® 6 Microcontrollers (MCU), Cypress Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Wireless Connectivity, and AWS IoT Cloud services. PSoC® 6 is Cypress’ super-charged IoT dual-core MCU featuring ultra-low-power and rich analog/digital peripherals. Pairing it with Cypress’ world class Wi-Fi/Bluetooth combo radios, and then connecting the hardware to AWS IoT provides an exciting launchpad for your next great IoT project idea that will change the planet. Your imagination is the only limit!

The Change the Planet with PSoC® IoT Design Contest is simple:

Then build your project and post on your Hackaday.io project page about it to be one of 3 grand prize winners! Finishers will also receive free new PSoC® 6 Kits and entrants can provide technical feedback in exchange for Tindie giftcards!

Here’s How To Apply (Phase 1):

  1. Submit your project page with simply an idea with answers to the following questions. The 50 most complete, well-thought out ideas will be chosen.
    1. What planet-changing IoT project do you want to build?
    2. Which Cypress PSoC® 6 Dev Kit would you like to use for the project and why? (you can use multiple kits)
    3. How will you use AWS IoT or other cloud services in your project?
    4. What is your experience level with embedded IoT design?

The Hardware you'll receive:

PSoC® 6 WiFi-BT Pioneer Kit (CY8CKIT-062-WIFI-BT)

PSoC® 6 WiFi-BT Prototyping Kit (CY8CPROTO-062-4343W)

Want to learn more about this hardware? Need add-on sensor shields, displays, motor control, etc. for your project? The Digi-Key Design Contest Resource Center is your one-stop-shop for all this and more!

The Software:

Cypress’ ModusToolbox Software Environment is the ideal, open-source software platform to create cloud-connected MCU/Wireless designs. The way to think about ModusToolbox is that it is a collection of firmware libraries (BSPs, middleware, examples) and tools that can be arranged to suit any IoT project. For example, we have deployed parts of ModusToolbox into Mbed OS as well as FreeRTOS. Supporting software docs/tutorials are in the "Resources" section of this page.

The Cloud:

AWS IoT cloud services provide broad and deep functionality, spanning the edge to the cloud, so you can build IoT solutions for virtually any use case across a wide range of devices. Built on AWS, which is used by industry-leading customers around the world, AWS IoT cloud services will allow your project to make a difference all over the planet.

Design Contest Phase 2 & Logistics
