Caption CERN Contest Week 13

A contest log for Caption CERN Contest

Caption CERN, win a prize!

Week 13: 4/29/2015 - 9pm PDT 5/6/2015

Coffee time at CERN! Every week we get at least one caption explaining that the strange piece of equipment included in that week's image is a coffee maker. I thought it would only be right to include this shot of CERN's real coffee nook, and a scientist about to enjoy a fresh cup of liquid "get 'er done". I have to thank CERN's photographer for grabbing this slice of life shot!

It's worth taking the time to check out the high res JPEG direct from CERN, as you can really zoom in on the post cards and photographs in the background. One even says "Tout va tres bien" - which Google translates to "Everything is going very well". Some jokes never get old!

Add your humorous caption as a comment to this project log. Make sure you're commenting on this contest log, not on the contest itself.

As always, if you actually have information about the image or the people in it, let CERN know on the original image discussion page.

Good Luck!

"Coffee is a serious business here at CERN.  These pictures are here to remind me of those who came before me and failed."

The rhythmic pattern generated by beating on his chest illustrated his excessive use of coffee, Chesterfields, CERNs new research chemical and perhaps too much time in front of the oscilloscope.

"this is going to make one gooood coffee rush selfie. All my friends are doing it. We post them on the wall." - CERN staff really were ahead of their time.

Here we see Bernard fine-tuning the high pressure, compressed air espresso machine. The pictures on the cabinet are of the CERN workers which lost their lives the few times the thing blew up . But it makes GREAT coffee.

New CERN Espresso Light -- now with fewer neutrons!

Or try our classic CERN Espresso Heavy -- made with only the finest heavy water.

Warning: CERN Espresso Dark may or may not contain dark matter.

At CERN the coffee doesn't have a lot of kick, but it does have some punch.

Simon wows a somewhat less tech savvy 1980s Blue Peter audience with his state of the art desktop model of a particle accelerator, cloud chamber and tracks.

Here we see Jeff giving Bob a fist bump for beating him at paper football. Bob didn't really recover from the invisible man experiments.
