We had a small group, but we came up with a diverse set of ideas to pick from. We decided to start with a relatively simple project- add an RFID tag to our laser cutter that will direct a new member to the laser cutter tutorial on our wiki. We designed a wooden plaque, programmed the RFID tag, added a dab of hot glue and voila!
We also developed the basis for a theramin-type instrument that uses WiFi RSSI values from an ESP8266 instead of a capacitive sensor. This could allow a performer to use their whole body to interact with the instrument, perhaps even exploiting several APs distributed throughout an entire room to achieve different effects! This we realized would take a bit longer, and several people got hungry before we finished the project... so it's on the "To be completed at a later date" list.
