Oh that frequency counter is beautiful!  And it's 45 years old?  It's as old as me!  I'm so glad it still runs!  Any idea why it seemed to have trouble above 42MHz?  Is that because the 41MHz is the limit?

Thank you for watching my video. The reason why the frequency limit is 41MHz is because it is the limit of the operating frequency of the SN74H00 and SN74196, the standard logic ICs in the input stage. Current frequency counters on the market use a prescaler IC such as MB507 (Max 1.6GHz) in the first stage to convert the frequency to 1/128 or so before counting.
