    Hello Friends. Today I'll discuss the major topic that has been in debate for a long time.  What is different between Cloud Computing and edge computing? Is cloud computing better than edge computing? Which one is better and mostly used nowadays? Most people are familiar with cloud computing less know what is edge computing and how it impacts our lives. These are all the questions I'll be highlighting in today's article.     Importance of Cloud Computing in the Market

    From small enterprises to larger businesses everyone is interested in cloud computing and realizing its importance day by day. According to the research, it is observed that about 60 to 70% of the companies worldwide have at least one application in cloud computing while the rest of the companies have a fixed amount of budget for cloud computing. It is predicted that shortly the market size of cloud computing globally will reach up to $623 billion and it is estimated to be three times more as compared to the last five years.

    What is Edge Computing and how it is important?

    As we all are familiar with the term cloud computing and how it is important in today's world. As Cloud computing is the initial network that enables data access over the internet while edge computing was introduced to provide more speed to the users and provide less delay in work. Edge computing encourages the adoption of the methods of cloud computing and it is only achievable by minimizing the distance between the user and the cloud.

    Let me explain to you more precisely what edge computing is.  Edge computing is imperative to take the growth of IoT (Internet of things) and all the devices used to be brought under consideration. So, any of the IoT devices induce in any organization's infrastructure creates data on the outer side of computing networks. All the data collected is then sent to the central network which then processes the data and once it is done then sent back to the Internet of things (IoT ) devices.  This process takes time and high traffic volume can slow down the network which ultimately can have serious issues with expensive IoT devices.

    Cloud computing is ideal for organizations where there are large projects and they have to control enormous data storage. Meanwhile, edge computing is suitable for organizations where the prime factor is latency. Small businesses can use edge computing to save money.

    2.  Security

    Cloud Computing doesn't need high-profile security measures while on the other hand edge computing needs robust plans of security having advanced methods to tackle security and cyber breaches.

    3.  Programming

    Cloud computing uses only one programming language whereas edge computing consumes different platforms for programming.

    There has been a huge debate on cloud computing and many controversies in the past. Many arguments and confusion in the IT departments arouse how this cloud computing can take place of old traditional means of storage.     In many Professional institutes, cloud computing plays an important. There might be a reason for doing so. First of all, is the easy access to the information. Students can easily view their subject-related material and can learn from it.  Also one of the best advantages is that students can enroll in any online course or degree program and can be a part of group discussions. Moreover, this has reduced the education expenses which means students can have easy access to data at less cost. Many colleges and universities have understood the need for cloud computing, so they offer online courses, class enrollments, and the tracking of assignments. So, now there is no need to spend capital on data storage or to reform an expensive infrastructure for that.

    There are many reasons why we can say that has revolutionized cloud computing in the health industry. One of the most common examples is the non-siloed information of the patient.  They include hospital management and patients' information about the doctor and medical history. So, it has become easy for the patient to go through their monthly checkups, reports, medical prescription, and appointment next date. The patient and doctor can easily communicate with each other while sitting miles through their smartphones and with good internet access. This technology has provided facilities to those patients who cannot have a serious health concerns. So, in this way, they stay connected with their doctors.

    When we buy some home appliance for our home or buy a car and that creates problem after some time then what we do is to take that thing to the specialist and he detects the problems and repairs it. But sometimes it becomes hard to detect the problem and ultimately it takes multiple attempts to detect the actual problem. The same is the case that happens with us when we attend the doctor. Firstly he examined by himself and then wrote down some tests and after a few more steps, the severity of any disease is detected. 

    That situation improved when our home appliances have computers installed in them. All we need to do is to take it to the repairman and he runs an error code and detects the problem and solve it. Today's scientist predicts that shortly the majority of the devices will be connected to the internet and it will become easy to detect the problems. This connectivity to the internet is called the Internet of Things (IoT).

    Let me explain to you in some simple words what are semiconductors. Actually while transmitting the electricity from one place to another, the material is divided into three main parts i.e. conductors, insulators, and semiconductors respectively. From our home's wiring to the headphones we use in our daily life they have all transmitted electricity which means they are conductors. On the other hand, insulators are the one that prevents the flow of electricity through them. In between these two materials, there come the semiconductors. One of the characteristics of the semiconductor is that it can control the flow of electric charges and decides their direction. 

    Depending on the situation they act as a conductor or insulator. Under many circumstances, heat is the main factor to decide on the material to adapt characteristics. If the temperature rises then semiconductors are more likely to be conductors as they break their covalent bond. On the contrary, if the temperature falls then superconductors are being used. But that is only for some specific applications.

    To maintain the electric appliances at home, it is important to control the motor flexibility in case to reduce the unnecessary movements.


    In our air conditioner, the inverter circuits and temperature sensors are made up of semiconductors.

    • Use in Industries

    The main focus of semiconductors is in our automation industry. The power required to start automation parts is induced by semiconductors. Power is supplied to Robots, and a servo system is converted to a required voltage and then this voltage is the main requirement of the machines.

    • Use in Power Generation

    The solar energy is converted to electric energy through a photovoltaic effect and they convert the solar energy with the help of photovoltaic cells which are made up of silicon semiconductors. The photovoltaic cells then transfer the energy to electrons in the semiconductor material which then flows in the form of an electric current and ultimately produces electricity.
