Up until recently I've uploaded my projects almost exclusively to instructables.com, it's the place that introduced me to making things after all, but I realized it might not be the best option anymore for many reasons:

    • Simple, "kids-friendly" project with pretty pictures are preferred by moderation, drowning out all interesting in depth content.

    • Strict project-only policy, it's not possible to upload information no matter how useful it would be to the community.

    • Over the years many useful features got removed, even basic things like seeing likes and followers.

    • Despite this, they manage to introduce new bugs that cause a lot of extra work, like ctrl-Z undos way to much and ctrl-Y is not implemented.
    • Views dropped massively, nowadays you find instructables with less than thousand vies on the frontpage; when I joined anything below 10k was rare. Thus I conclude they get about 1/10th of the visitors they used to.
    • Communitiy forum will be closed in 2021, the only place where one could interact with the moderation team and voice problems like mentioned above.

All in all I don't think instructables is not a good fit for my kind of projects anymore, and I don't think it'll change anytime soon. This does not mean I'll leave, all content will stay up till the very end, but future projects will be primarily hosted here, on hackaday.io.

    Hello world, hello hackaday.io :)
