The Murata module is ~$10, if you buy a separate MCU + SX1276 you will pay about the same. At least with the Murata module you have the advantage of an exccvellent Arduino core.

OK. Will check them out. But "Ai-Thinker" produces some modules called RA-01 and RA-02 at about half the price. But I yet have to test them for their performance. I'll need to buy LoRa modules from many vendors and test them.

Hi Kris. 50 years is the calculated expected lifetime including the self discharge (which is about 600 nA) of the CR2450 (540 mAh) cell. The device consumes an average of around other 600 nA. So total nominal current consumption around 1.2 uA. You can see the summary of these calculations in the "Features" part of the description.
