Not sure about that; interestingly on the AS7265X Demo Board the AS72651 is actually marked AS7263. Are these the same? I don;t know; one of the many questions I have asked AMS and I am still awaiting an answer. I think buying and playing with the Adafruit AS7262 board might at least give you some experience using this class of sensor. Once the design question about the AS7265X are answered you could easily create your own AS72651 breakout board.

Are you saying that the AS7263 is capable of being any one of the lower numbered versions? AS7262, AS7261?

I am saying the sensor that is supposed to be the AS72651 on my demo board is labeled AS7263. I don't know what this means and I am waiting for AMS to explain this. I am also pointing out that you can buy for $20 an Adafruit breakout of the AS7262, and you can use this to get an inexpensive idea of what these kinds of sensor can do. But no, the AS72651, AS72652, and AS72653 each have a different set of filters and shouldn't be interchangeable. But like with a lot of things concerning these AMS sensors, it is hard to be sure...

You might want to check out Adafruit's AS7262 breakout as well; their design is larger than I prefer (suited for Arduino UNO users I suppose) but could also be a good place to start...

I'm specifically looking at the AS7261 for the CIE calibration for colour matching and identification, which I think fits the use case better than the AS7262. Do you think its a drop in replacement to the AS7262 board by adafruit (aside from updating the flash?). and thanks for the feedback!
