Kids have a voracious appetite for knowledge when they’re young. They’re full of energy, full of curiosity, and constantly want to do new things. You just have to find that thing that really sparks their interest.
There are dozens of different kinds of after school classes, lessons, and activities you can sign up your kids for. These are just a few ideas to get you started.
1) Coding Courses
Kids can learn to code! Parents might be surprised by that, but you can sign up for coding school for kids and give them a head start learning a valuable new skill. Coding is quickly becoming an essential skill and one that may define the workforce that today’s kids graduate into.
Online coding classes for kids can start at a relatively young age, even before middle school. Look for courses that teach programming languages used by professional developers in the industry. Kids also benefit from smaller class sizes. A great way for kids to learn how to code is through building video games.
2) Language School
For many kids, after school language classes put them in touch with their own culture and heritage. Parents use after school language classes to make sure their kids know how to speak the same language they grew up with, and that they don’t lose that essential part of their identity, family, and community.
For others, after school language classes are about broadening their horizons. Kids are naturally apt at learning new languages, so there’s never a better time for them to pick one up. Learning a foreign language will open up opportunities for them around the world, whatever they want to do. The most popular languages taught to kids include:
- Mandarin Chinese
3) Music Lessons
Music lessons are a perennial favorite for parents who want their kids to learn something outside of school. There has been a lot of research done on the effects of music lessons on childhood development. When kids learn how to play an instrument, it can promote their intelligence, help their self-confidence, and improve their concentration and cognitive abilities.
Team sports are the perfect way to get your kids physically active, but exercise is only one of the benefits of playing sports after school. Sports help kids learn about teamwork, improve their socialization skills, and learn life skills like sportsmanship.
5) Art Classes
There’s no end to the different art classes you can sign kids up for. With a bit of searching, you’re likely to find classes available for a wide range of pursuits, such as:
- And more.
The visual arts can quickly become a career path or a hobby. Creative hobbies are major stress relievers, and they can give people a sense of satisfaction and development when things are busy and hectic. They can also impart useful skills that can be used in the workplace. When kids learn something creative, they’re learning something that can give them meaning and happiness for the rest of their lives.
There’s a big world waiting out there for your kids. If you’re looking for something they can do after school, let your kids try different things and see what interests them.

If you want to find the cutting edge of new tech development, the best place to look is usually going to be user experience (UX). From building ever-more sophisticated microchips to creating seamless, intuitive app design, making devices that are easier to use and can do more is at the heart of just about every recent breakthrough.
As the interface between humans and computers, improvements in UX can have a profound impact on how we interact with technology. So, if you want to understand the future of smartphones, laptops, and smartwatches, understanding the role that UX plays in driving innovation is essential.
UX is at the Centre of New Tech Development
For decades, user-centred design has been the bedrock philosophy of the tech industry. Making it easier for users to access and use the information and tools they need has been a central feature of software developments from Windows 95 to the latest dating app. And more than anything else this involves a close attention to UX design.
But good UX design isn’t always easy, and often requires designers to make difficult choices about what to prioritize. For example, there are at least 6 UX mistakes to avoid if you want to develop an app that will keep users coming back, from obvious ones like overloading it with features to more subtle issues like copying the UX from your competitor.
Innovation comes from designers who are able to find creative solutions to these often-contradictory consumer demands. Just as the touch screen made it possible to create the efficient, multi-purpose smartphones we use every day, so, too, are new breakthroughs being driven by attempts to reconcile seemingly impossible requirements.
The New Frontiers of UX
It’s one thing to design an application so it is intuitive and easy to use. But the latest breakthroughs in UX design are about moving beyond the current touch-based approach to UX pioneered by the iPhone in 2007, and toward new frontiers of UX based around movement and voice.
Amazon’s Alexa and Apple’s Siri are both examples of devices that embrace a completely new type of UX by making it possible for users to interact with their devices via voice input. While we might not immediately think of voice as being a matter of UX, it is simply the next logical step in the evolution toward more seamless engagement with technology.
Voice has already become a standard part of the UX of many screen devices, and is revolutionizing how people engage with tech while driving, for example.
But the next frontier might well be touchless gesture control technology being developed by Google’s Project Soli, a new radar-based technology that reads human gestures as commands. While still in its early stages of development, UX based around touchless gesture control will revolutionize how we play our favorite games, send emails, and interact with the devices we rely on every day.
However far our technology develops, one thing remains true: at the heart of every new breakthrough there is a tangible human need — to process information, communicate, create, and connect. Whether in the context of mobile apps or voiceless technology, good UX design is ultimately about making our interactions with technology more seamless, convenient, and natural.
