Ive seen two different ways on youtube (one hardware tweak to color cartridges to read false full ink the second was adjusting inputs via reboot in engineer mode)

You can get ink cartridge reset devices on eBay for thin money. I've had good luck with these - check that the one you get claims to reset the cartridge you have (there are a zillion types) and you should be good.
Also, you can refill ink cartridges. I've had good luck with the refill kits from inksupply.com. The ink comes with a syringe for refilling, and a small rubber ball for a stopper to fill the hole. That and a reset device works well.
