Fixing the hoop on a car key
Floz wrote 05/02/2016 at 00:55 • 0 pointsMy girlfriend dropped her keys and promptly stepped on them, snapping the integrated hoop of plastic off that normally attaches the remote and other things to the key.
After a few weeks of "where's the key?.. ok, now where's the alarm remote?", I decided to try a solution.
A small bit of kydex wrapped around the head of the key, with holes punched through for the keyring, and voila!
A bit more detail:
Cut the Kydex in a strip as wide as the "head" of the key, and twice as long. Cut a slot out of one end wide enough for the shaft of the key to pass through, leaving a few tabs to wrap back around the body. Place the Kydex in an oven (or toaster oven) at 200'ish degrees for a few minutes. Remove it, and quickly shape it to wrap around the key head longitudinally. Dremel, drill, or punch a hole through each side for the keyring, and you're good.
