Problem: Many students in First Robotics Competition (FRC) don't get hands on experience building their own robot due to cost and lack of lesson planning.
Learning to build robots is best done through hands on learning, but large robots used in FRC are very expensive. A team might have 30+ students, but only have 1 robot to work on, causing most students to not actually spend much time building the robot, even if that's what they want to do. Additionally, teams are run by mentors who have full time jobs and aren't able to fully plan out lessons to teach the skills that students need to succeed.
This goals of this project is the following
- design a robot chassis that is 5X cheaper than the current standard kit chassis
- provide build instructions for the chassis
- develop accompanying lesson plans to be used by mentors
