Need some acrylic cut
Starhawk wrote 11/11/2016 at 23:20 • 1 pointHave DXF's, can't travel ;) in the interests of honesty -- I also have like zero money right now. (While I understandably cannot and will not offer what I don't have, I /am/ glad to work out a payment arrangement. I will have money in early December and early January... although, December will be a tad tricky because Christmas.) To give you an idea of my budgetary constraints, I can say that Pololu's $25-plus-shipping MOQ is somewhat above my ability to pay at /any/ given time.
As for the pieces themselves... I need two small pieces cut from clear/transparent quarter-inch acrylic sheet. One is roughly 1.5"x5.25", the other, roughly 6.75"x3.5". Each has square/rectangular as well as round cutouts. Tolerances are not super high as far as machining goes, probably about 0.02"-0.05" or so. Again, I have DXF files of what I need. They need /very/ minor tweaking... I can have them to you roughly between one and three hours after you ask for them, unless it's a Thursday. (My Thursdays are complicated.)
Normally I have a pal up in Tacoma, WA who does the occasional job like this for me -- he's incommunicado right now, and needs parts for his mill anyways. I can't do it myself, as I'm not handy enough either with drill and coping saw or with Dremel and file. Hence the, er, 'distress call'. I'm in a tiny, machine-shop-less town you've never heard of, smack in the middle of North Carolina, USA, if that's any use to anyone. Message me for email and/or mailing addresses, and I will almost certainly reply within a half-hour, unless it's after about 10pm local time (that would be Eastern US time), or (again) a Thursday.

I'm too far away to do anything with dxf file as the shipping from here would cost too much.
In any case, just give me a dollar figure and a link to pay you (even by paypal) and I would be happy to contribute as long as its not one arm and one leg.
If Peter has already commited then I would still be happy to share the cost.

I apologize for how long it's taken me to reply -- I was bit by a Chromium bug (#664177 in their tracker, if you want to go look it up) that basically amounted to a partial SSL logic bomb. Hackaday[dot]com was not affected, but Hackaday[dot]io was.

At any rate, I will confirm with Peter as to whether or not there will be any costs associated and we'll work something out if need be.

Just got a reply from Peter. He says it's all good -- no money will be involved.
He suggested I take a look at your stuff and try and help out... alas, it's waaaaaay over my head.

Got it covered :) thanks again, Peter!

I submitted a quote to Pololu. We'll see what happens. The answer will be "heck no!" for sure, but I want to see how much they want... partially morbid curiosity (think, rubbernecking at a car crash), and partially, Christmas is coming...
In the meantime, anyone wants those DXFs, let me know. The issue is that the rectangular and square cutouts are /just a hair/ too large. I need to shrink them by ~0.02" or so... I'm a tad lazy, though :P so that's probably not going to happen until interest pops up.
