Resource or tutorial on making a custom clock & gearset that responds to web information?

To be more exact, I want to make a clock that shows block status, height, time to difficulty and other data pulled from the bitcoin network.  How could i make a clock that responded to updates from the blockchain and shifted based on the block height?  I have played around with a widget of sorts to display on a small screen rather than physical gears and hands but it seems far more difficult as I'm a rather amateur coder.  Any assistance and/or direction would be greatly appreciated.

disclaimer: This is also my first post on hackaday, long time lurker.  Hopefully this is the proper forum for my question.
