Any one out there using the M42 gcode instruction?

So I am running in to a problem now with the M42 P43 S0 instruction I have tested on multiple pins but my serial terminal becomes un responsive after sending that command. Any ideas. ???

I use it top turn of the LEDs after the print has finished. I often print through the night and I don't need light when the print is done and video recording is finished.

I remember I've used it once when I was learning GCode as a student, for direct machine programming. :)
