Desktop PCB milling without investing 2 years to get it running
adria.junyent-ferre wrote 10/22/2017 at 13:26 • 0 pointsHi. I remember reading an article back in May reporting on Othermill being acquired by Bre Pettis. The company was rebranded as Bantam Tools but I haven't heard any news about their mill lately. Their social media accounts seem to be very quiet. Does anyone know where is this going? Do you know of any good <$4,000 alternatives for desktop PCB milling that don't involve buying a terrible CNC from Ebay and spending an awful lot of time getting it to work with some open source control board?
Thanks!

used LPKF machines show up on eBay relatively regularly. Usually somewhat near your $4k target price.

Is "active social media" a requirement for purchasing a machine that seems to be very well reviewed?

No but I don't want to spend a lot of money on a machine and find out 3 months later that the company disappeared and there's no support. It happened before and I didn't enjoy it. :(((

@adria.junyent-ferre I haven't got any experience of the machine but it would appear that PCB milling is within the intended use cases of the boxzy machine.

Thanks, I didn't know about that one. I'll give it a proper look.
