Program Butterfly Labs ASIC Miner?
alan wrote 05/25/2018 at 17:03 • 0 pointsI've recently acquired a few Butterfly Labs ASIC Miners (I think the 50Gh/s models). They're no longer powerful enough to mine Bitcoin at a profit so I'm wondering if they could be used for something else. I know having "ASIC" in the name basically says no, but I"m curious if anyone has dabbled with repurposing these miners. Thanks!

You should be able to mine any SHA-256 coin, so look into if any of the others are more profitable than Bitcoin (I doubt it'll be by a lot). That failing, they really are just going to act like heaters.

But extremely powerful heaters. I mean seriously. Hundreds of kilowatts of space heating, probably with lots of fans.

I suppose if you have a need to compute lots of SHA-256 sums it might be useful…
