Escape Room Toolkit

Does there exist a toolkit for creating escape rooms?

I’ve been thinking of making an escape-room style challenge for the kids, with some interactive parts (locks, keypads, etc). I was expecting to find a toolkit using some standard hardware modules and software to make life simple rather than reinventing the wheel (to be honest, I was expecting to find a dozen competing and forked options, but...). But I’ve failed to find anything via google. Everyone seems to have written custom code. 

Before I start creating anything, is there anything in existence, or is there a reason why this is a waste of time?
