Need help on first project.
Desmon wrote 03/07/2019 at 04:26 • 0 pointsI’m trying to build a high quality A/d d/a converter for pro audio applications. I want to make something that’s 8 channels and has super low noise and super clean. Please help as I am a noob in this world.

Hello
Ask your question in detail to help you, sir

@Bruce Land has some good tutorials on pre-amps, you can start there to start learning: https://hackaday.io/project/3500-small-physiological-preamplifier

I hate to say this, but you would do better buying than building. This is not an easy place to start. The parts you need are expensive and board layout is critical. Even for an experienced designer a "one off" would probably not make economic sense. Even seasoned experts argue over such things as input transformers on mic preamps. If you want my wee bit of sage advice on mic preamps, look into THAT semiconductor. IMHO they will get you to as near the best as you are gong to get with a chip, and they have a lot of reading and design material published. I am perhaps old school, I like transformers in that role, but be prepared to drop over $100 a pop on a top quality one. And you still need high end semis behind that. Not a poor mans endeavor. Once you get your mic preamps done come back for some help with A/D's...

As there are tons of people better than a noob, this idea is ridiculus in the field of pro audio.

Desmon, I could probably give you some good direction, but do not exactly understand what you're asking for. I can make assumptions but this is time consuming. Please send some better context of the product/device you wish to build and I can probably give u some pointers. I will say being a noob is a tough spot to be in to do low-noise mixed signal design. I think if I give u some pointers, and you're willing to put in the time researching materials I give you, you can achieve your goal.

Not to discourage you, but this is quite a rabbit hole for a first project. Low noise anything requires careful design and planning and is out of my pay grade.
I say read up on how others have accomplished similar things (big ground planes, traces between layers, sometimes air wiring and tin foil) and then just do it. Good luck.
