Have you seen https://docs.google.com/document/d/16ts-aoE-W3kNmG34ZGpygtiPyMkE-qjkd7W9VEMpP5A/edit ? Not sure where it came from, but it was in my Chrome history. Its language is corp-speaky, but depending on your company, that could be exactly right.
Here is what I'd say if I were talking to somone face-to-face rather than writing them an email. Supercon is solidly in the realm of professional development for an embedded developer. It's going to add these things to your professional toolbag:
1. you'll have exposure to a wide range of different MCUs and architectures. As well as seeing stuff your company doesn't use, you're very likely to see and find out about inspirational new uses for things your company already is familiar with.
2. you'll be learning about hardware and applications that aren't covered by mainstream industry courses or conferences, which will help you bring new perspectives to your tasks. This is the new technologies angle Dave refers to.
3. you'll be talking to people and hearing presentations that all involve techniques and approaches for building one-off prototypes or small-run manufacturing, quickly - because most hackers are doing this in their spare time - and cheaply - because most hackers are doing this with their own money.
4. probably other things, but I'll stop here because three is the perfect number of points.
2019 will be my first Supercon. I'm going because I've got so much out of the recorded Hackaday talks from previous years. They have inspired me to think in new ways about my day job.
Hope to meet you there!

This is a perfect jumping off point for me. Thank you. I hope to meet you there too.

isn't what you do on your vacation your "business"? There are talks about new technologies and experiments. Carl Bugeja held a talk about pcb motors, Ben Krasnow about 3D pcbs.. so many more cool things to see and get inspired by, it's relatively small, so you can actually talk to people.

What I do on my vacation is my business, but there can be push back on what days the company is willing to give me, not quantity but specific dates. You brought up new technologies and I bet if I can use that as an angle, I can secure the dates that I need.
