Tips for fixing an old Tektronix Oscilloscope?
James wrote 02/20/2020 at 02:54 • 0 pointstrying to fix an old tektronix oscilloscope. It seems like the lcd panel burnt out with time but most of the buttons seem to work fine. Before I rip the thing open and have a look inside, any tips?
Hope to be able to write a blog post about this if I succeed.
Any input is welcome. Thanks a lot!

I have a TDS-620A I still need to assess and work on. I see found a youtube video I'll link below and also link my lot of data posted here somewhat regarding and also demonstrating my scope creep into other projects: https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B3kLL6AnKjj5UVpxU1QxNjNUcW8
Found this video to get a landscape view before you open up the case: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vdnJENVQMc

BTW: The TDS640 has a CRT, not an LCD. The most likely culprit is the high voltage supply for the CRT.

First step is finding the service manual for the scope:
https://www.tek.com/oscilloscope/tds620a-manual/tds620a-tds640a-tds644a
Also the user handbook:
https://www.tek.com/oscilloscope/tds620a-manual/tds620a-640a-644a-user-manual
Those two will give you something to work with.
Also note that the TDS640A has a VGA output. If you have a monitor with VGA input at hand, you might be able to get away without fixing the built in display. I've never used a TDS640A, so I'm not sure that the VGA will display what you need, but it's worth a try.

Well, naming the Tektronix model might help us. So far we don't have any successful clairvoyance projects. And of course, it has to be asked, have you done a search and what resulted?
