New Gallery comments
The Big One wrote 03/02/2015 at 19:00 • 4 pointsHi HaD overlords,
I have a comment on the new Gallery system. I love the idea, but the implementation could use a bit of work. Specifically, having a link to view (or download) the raw image would be very handy, as opposed to forcing you to view the scaled version. This is especially bad for schematics: the scaled version of larger schematics is unreadable, and due to the way the gallery is implemented there is no "right click and open image in new tab" option. You need to view the DOM source and copy / paste from there. Big annoyance!
For an example showing the problem, please see http://hackaday.io/project/4154/gallery#038c24520b36de9d9bb7958821207816

On mobile phones where you can't hover, it is no longer possible to browse through the images and stay on the project page. As soon as you click a thumbnail it takes you away to the gallery page which can take a while to load in some cases. For me this was unexpected behavior. Multiple ways to resolve this, have a way for mobile users to click through images using arrows, or get rid of the link to the gallery view on each thumbnail and move it to a dedicated button. Something to consider

Hey thanks for the feedback! As Benchoff said, "view full size" button is coming with the next release (< 2 weeks)

Just a link to the image file would be better that a download. I'm sight impaired so I have tools to assist added into my browser, I can zoom, pan, rotate, gamma correct etc right in my browser but to do that I must have a right click link to the actual image.
If it were a (forced) download link then I either have to save it and then open it in a browser window or send it to an image editor.

Good call... a right click link to the image would really serve all my need as well, and is the simplest / most intuitive way to handle this IMHO.

Works for me... as long as I can view the schematics at 100% without artifacts, I am happy. I'm not seeing anything yet, I assume this is in development now?
Thanks for the quick response!

Well, you're not getting a download button. You're getting a 'view full size' button. Twelve of one, a baker's dozen of the other...

Wow. That's probably the best example/use case for gallery downloads I've seen.
I thought it was annoying to view source/resources/images to get pics for the blog, but that's just... wow.
