Using a Raspberry Pi as a controller for RC vehicles

So, if I understand correctly, you and I are in the same boat, which is to say we don't know much about RCV but we'd like to know a heck of a lot more.
Here is the path that I'm taking. I've purchased a Crazyflie 2.0 [1], for which I'm building a remote control[2]. That's as far as I've gotten.
