Detailed Guide for Choosing LiPo Battery for Your Drone
05/16/2020 at 06:41 • 1 commentA battery is energy source for your Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) i.e. your drone. This battery should be good enough to help a drove fly for longer time, that’s what every pilot wants, isn’t it? The flight time i.e. the time spent by drone in the sky is dependent on the batteries. So, selection of drone batteries is the wisest choice one has to make.
Lithium Polymer or LiPo batteries have a lot of benefits such as light weight, high capacities, high discharge rates, etc. that have made them the best choice in consumer drones. They have a high energy density in relation to their size and weight, with a higher voltage per cell, typically 3.7 volts, so you can get the necessary power with fewer cells than other rechargeable batteries. However, the LiPo batteries have shorter lifespan and they can lead to fire if the battery gets punctured. So, they are very sensitive and need special care for charging, discharging, and storage.
There are so many features, specifications, and price tags for various kinds of LiPo batteries available in the market, but it’s always important to keep your budget balanced with the quality of batteries you’re going to buy. However, it’s not too wise to save money for some cheaper quality of batteries and risk your expensive drone into higher repair or replacement charges.
So, this article is mainly focused in terms of a drone user’s perspective with some guidelines and explanations about how to select LiPo battery for your drone.
