Prototype something that will become the next big thing. Awaken your inner entrepreneur and develop a physical, tangible thing that will shake up the industry.

Outstanding contestants will have the opportunity to be featured in a Hackaday article.

20 Best Product finalists will win $1000 each. To move into the finalist arena, contestants will be required to submit three prototype replicas for judging.

The team or person that wins the Best Product Prize will win $30k and an opportunity to interview for a residency at the Supplyframe Design Lab. A Design Lab residency comes with a materials budget, mentoring, and the use of world class equipment such as injection molding, milling and 3D printing machines.

September 4th:
VIDEO

2-5 minute video of a working prototype required.

October 20th:
PROTOTYPE

Best Product finalists required to submit three prototype replicas.

Minimum entry requirements:

  1. Idea + image + documentation + 4 build logs + BOM + business plan
  2. Discuss the challenge the project addresses
  3. Discuss how the project will alleviate or solve the problem that the project addresses
  4. Discuss how the project might be world changing
  5. Publish at least one (1) image illustrating how the project might be used. This may be a sketch, schematic, flow chart, rendering, or other types of images.
  6. Link to any repositories (e.g., Github)
  7. Document all open-source licenses and permissions as well as any applicable third-party licenses/restrictions
  8. Submit the Project to 2017 Hackaday Prize using the “Submit project to...” option found on the published Project Profile.
  9. Show at least four (4) Project Log or Instructions updates on your Project Profile
  10. Create a Bill of Materials (BOM)
  11. Draft a proposed Business Plan

Best Product Finals

On or around July 31st, the 20 Best Product finalists will be announced. Best Product finalists must complete the following requirements by October 21, 2017. The winner will be announced on or around November 11, 2017.

Minimum entry requirements:

  1. Create a video, between two (2) minutes and five (5) minutes in length, that shows a working prototype. The video should describe the challenge it addresses and demonstrate how it facilitates the solution. The video does not need to be “studio quality,” but it should “sell” the project to non-technical viewers. Upload the video to YouTube, Vimeo, or Youku and tag the video with the keyword: 2017HackadayPrize. Add the video link to the “Contest Entry Videos” section of your Project Profile found by clicking “Edit Project”.
  2. Best Product finalists will be required to submit three prototype replicas for judging. Two will be returned.
