I first got the idea for the project last semester when I realized that I wouldn't be able to attend some courses that I really wanted to take this semester. I got busy after that but since the summer is coming up I think this would be a great project to do.
List of components that go into this project:
- Raspberry Pi 3
- TFT Touch Screen for setting up and starting the entire system
- Battery Powerpack
- HD Webcam compatible with the rpi3
- Pan-Tilt servo mechanism for the camera
- OpenCV / FFMPEG software to record AV and track the Prof at the same time
Reminded me of an old joke (obviously pre-Internet):
A lecturer comes in one day with a tape player. "I have prerecorded this lecture for you so from now on I don't need to be in the lecture theatre," presses play, and returns in 50 minutes.
Next week, he's curious about how his students are adapting to the arrangement, so he peeks into the theatre. There's his tape player on the lectern, and on the student benches are tape recorders, capturing his lecture.
Seriously though, it takes a good lecturer and video crew to do it properly; check how MOOC providers like Coursera and edX do it.
