I came across a neat how to on reducing the sleep power of the ESP8266. I haven't read it in any great detail yet, but I plan to look into it to see if there are any concepts I hadn't yet thought of:

I haven't done anything on it in quite a while since my other projects have kind of taken on a life of their own.  The RFID sensor is currently being evaluated by potential customers, and the BooSTick is being sold at Adafruit.  I'm also working more with my 3D printer.  I am getting more BooSTicks in stock soon, and then I might order the RFID sensors to be built for me, and THEN I'll be back to this project.  Thanks for your interest!
