I've built one DS0138, it's even cheaper than $36 on aliexpress.

It's a great exercise to learn soldering and it works, but that's all, it's barely useful or usable as an oscilloscope. The interface/HMI is obscure and slow...

BTW there are clones of this (already) Chinese kit, with varying quality.

it is not necessary

change the cost of the oscilloscope is unfeasible
follow the assembly instructions
test resistors and values
