Accelerometers for Spyder and Head

A project log for BuckyBot

A Mobile 3D printer to build Megastructures

got accelerators for the chassis (Spyder) module and Extruder (Head) module.  Using MMA7361's from Freescale to develop the software.  Still don't think I need gyros ... There should be no need to make an INS ... just position relative to some monument position. The 7361 is no longer manufactured, but I'll update the design when I can no longer get cheap boards based on it ($3.33 on ebay).

I have rethought accelerometers (for the time being). I'm going to use the accelerometers in the compass chip on the orientation board (an ST LSM303D compass module) to determine instantaneous attitude of the Bot.

The MPU-6050 is a gyro+accelerator board which i found for $2.78 on ebay, the cheapest MMA7361 boards I found is $2.54 but I guess it's not a big difference to your founds? How many buckybots do you intend to build?

I will build as many as I need to make a 1 Km sturcture. That might take years. However, I am currently working on a single prototpype, based on Vlad's hexapod at GrabCad ...
