The Nixie Speedometer
A nixie tube display showing the vehicle speed (kmh) based on GPS data. In the case is also a tube pre-amplifier for the stereo sound system.
Parts:
- Arduino pro mini clone (or any other ATMega328 based arduino/clone will probably work)
- NEO-6M GPS module GY-GPS6MV2. Instructions on the Arduino.cc forum to hook this up.
- 74HC595 shift registers
- IN-14 nixie tubes
- 74141 nixie tube driver IC's.
- WS2812 LEDs. Link to the libraries I used for the WS2812 LEDs
- 12VDC to 5VDC step down convertor to provide 5VDC power.
- Boost convertor circuit using 555 timer for supplying high voltage to the Nixie tubes: Link to the HV driver instructable
- Some resistors here and there.
- Veroboard, wires, shrink tube, cable ties and hot melt. Lots of hot melt.
Instructable for driving Nixie tubes with an Arduino
The Arduino code is in the file "GPS_NIXIE_Speedometer_V2.1.ino"
The tube pre-amplifier (on the left) is a cheap-ish "6J9 Vacuum Tube Integrated Amplifier Mini Audio HiFi Stereo Headphone Earset Amp" from eBay. 12VDC to 6VDC step down convertor for the power.
I sure would like to see the schematic for this!
