first motion test (no leds)

A project log for Locomatrix - 3D POV - a different approach

Let's use some rotary to linear movements to display things in 3D. I have no idea if this will work, but hey, I'm gonna try it anyways...

I could not resist to put the printed parts together! This is my test rig, I intend to build a fancy looking one but not for now.

Do you think you need to lubricate it? If it were mine, I would probably be tempted to add something that would eat the plastic, then curse it later.

Hehe, I thought about WD-40, too, but it never got stuck or felt grinding and I ran into another problem which got pretty distracting..

Looks awesome! Noisy isn't always a bad thing. I'm curious about wear and tear; any damage to the printed parts after that brief run?

There was almost no friction because I had to mount a nut as a spacer so the motor could move at all and it got a bit wobbly. I took a nail file to finish the gears and get rid of ABS noses - worked like a charm.

Me too :) I had to travel work-related so I had no time (and materials) to work on this. It's quite noisy and I'm still thinking about using the "locomotive" approach. But I guess the next step will be to make it glow.
