Return of 'teach me to hack GSM' guy

A project log for Hackaday.bash.org

TODO: recreate using 555

Not only nobody in HackChat was actually experienced in it (or was dumb enough to admit it), the guy didn't want to do his own research in the slightest. Half an hour later, the guy was persuaded that all HackChat's inhabitants are bots, and for illegal stuff he needs to get to deep levels of Hackaday Chat, where the real hackers talk (and for that, he'd first need to find some clues in the HTML and JS of HackChat, like in a puzzle). The guy left the chat, saying he'd delete his account (which he did) and would re-join later.

Two weeks later:

Question checks out ;-)

I wouldn't be surprised, and I do remember that this "ping a cellphone" guy came to HackChat recently - incidentally, I sent him on the same HTML/JS quest as the original guy =D

In what way could that backfire?

I believe that this very much depends on the circumstances. For example, a guy getting scammed for asking how to hack computers is kinda like a drug dealer complaining to the police that his drugs got stolen, chances are that that police would much rather go after that guy =)

Not that I'm interested in money, though, that's too simple of a goal - I got something more clever in mind for the next guy that comes to ask questions ;-) I'm just trying to make a point.

This happens with all kinds of different people occasionally. Like someone gets the idea that the Hackaday chat is filled with the blackest of black hats, smoking their cigars whilst connected to the chat from a payphone in the corner of some underground bar

This happens a lot on various forum/websites around this time in the year when the kiddies are done with school.
Not sure if they are trolling or just clueless to realize that those stuff are not on open web that is accessible to search engine or public eyes.  The stuff they are looking for are probably members only and only by invite/referral etc.

You mean people actually hangs out on hack chat?  Would have been a lot better if it were IRC.
