Auto Ripper - BD/DVD Changer for automated ripping

In this project I'll hack a CD Changer to use a BD drive and automate the ripping of BDs/DVDs on my PC

Similar projects worth following

This project started with me deciding to digitalize my( Parents) Film collection.

At the beginning I just did it one by one but after a bad failure on my media server and some issues with the video files I thougt about a more automated way to rip them to my hard drive.

I remembered a project seen on the Ben Heck Show (Link to Youtube) so I try to build my own version of this great piece of hacking machinery.

So I grabbed myself a CD changer on ebay ..... the rest can be read on this project page I'll continously update it to what steps I take to do so.

  • 1 × Sony - CDP-CX 235 - MegaStorage 200CD 200 CD CD Changer
  • 1 × LiteOn - iHOS104 Cheap BD Drive (I think discontinued)

  • It's here =D Let's rip it apart

Ok I happily received a giant package, it was about 1m by 50cm by 60cm and I was shocked whether I underestimated the size, but luckily the seller just meant it really good with the packaging.

    So here it is:

And to get an idea about how exactly the loading mechanism works I fired it up, it works well here's a video:

And as you might have guessed it can't stay together too long so I started with ripping everything out I won't need (I kept all the parts)

Just leaving the bare case and the main part of the CD Changing mechanism.

Tomorrow I'll modify the original CD sled to fit my BD Rom drive.

    See you again Babo

I couldn't wait for it and started the main project with disassembling my existing BD Drive.

More on that you can read in the instructions section.

To start of the project I surfed on ebay for literally weeks searching for a suitable CD Changer

There are many out there which can be used, for me based in germany I had to wait quite a long time to find a cheap one, how it is in your country I can't tell, but getting a 200CD Sony CD Changer for 65€ (including shipping) was quite a good deal seeing them sold for about 150 + every day.

I'm awaiting this piece on friday so this will be the next day you'll hear from be

To start of with the drive disassembly you should open the drive from within your PC

In my case the drive was a LiteOn - iHOS104 actually the cheapest BD drive available while I built my PC
