Hello Alain, i liked your project. Im also interested in this HMD field. I was looking for a starting point and i found your tutorial helpful.  I was looking for possible displays recently. I have thought to work with this 0.5 inch full color display:  http://www.alibaba.com/product-detail/Full-Color-OLED-microdisplay_673088898.html?spm=a2700.7724838.0.0.OrOwJA

But i realised its hard to drive. There also exist LCOS displays price around 80$ they are also below 0.5inch and full color. But they all need some expertise in display driving. Right now i will start working with your first 0.66 inch display to have an idea. I will be following your updates also.

Great. As you can see I am trying now this 0.49 Displays to reduce the size of the data glasses. I think I will do a PCB for this one. But the microdisplays you found seems to be a good starting point for a more evaluated data glasses.. In fact, I am not done with this project. It works really good, but I have a few changes in mind. I will move in a new house end of the month, so that I think the project will be on hold until January

I seen LCOS used with beam splitters, could work

Also it might be cheaper to buy a used pair of videoglasses to get the parts.
