For digital communications much of the listed components and modules are used for Pulse Code Modulation, Pulse Amplitude Modulation, Pulse Position Modulation, and Pulse Width Modulation radio devices. Specific modules are needed to convert the analog into digital such as: Analog -to-Digital Converter, Encoder/Decoder, Phase Lock-Loop, Voltage Controlled Oscillator, Modulator/Demodulator, Phase Detector, Phase Shift Keying Systems (including; BPSK, FSK, QPSK, DPSK, QAM.), etc.
