I found this really great looking Kalart Craig 16mm Projecto-Editor on the curb near the Library of Congress on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C. It seems the owners were gutting the house, pulled a bunch of "junk" from the basement, and put it out on the curb to get rid of it. I didn't know what I was going to do with it at the time, but the enclosure was too cool to pass up. A short time later, I discovered the internet loves retro arcade consoles and it seemed like the perfect opportunity to build my own!

It runs on a (you guessed it) Raspberry Pi 1 Model B and uses the RetroPie platform for the emulation. Here's some of the other components involved:

  • USB NES Style Controller
  • USB PS2 Style Controller (for games with more that 2 buttons)
  • Back up TFT LCD Display
  • USB Hub
  • SPST Vintage Look Switch
  • Salvaged Desktop Speakers
  • Edimax Wifi Dongle (this allows to me to ssh in and add games, update controller settings, etc.)
