This project builds on my previous project the "universal power supply" to hopefully set a new standard for tesla coil experimentation.
With a 32 bit micro controller at the heart and a powerful full bridge driver configuration, this tesla coil is extremely capable. With virtually unlimited frequency, waveform and modulation options my plan is to create high fidelity audio with the plasma arc.
Although it is nearly physically complete at this point, I have yet to actually turn it on.
All design details will be made available - My goal is 100% open source and open hardware.
The secondary coil is made from a pre-cut piece of ABS pipe, two end caps/plugs, a spool of magnet wire, and some clear polyurethane. I pre-coated the pipe section with polyurethane then wound the magnet wire before it dried. Despite mounting it on a lathe, I hand turned the whole coil.
When complete, I sealed the coil with additional coats of polyurethane and a clear spray sealant. It was wound with 26 AWG enameled copper wire, I estimate around 1000 feet were used. I don't yet know how many windings this actually ended up being, but I will figure it out by my next update.
Your secondary coils look beautiful. Is that a MOT on the primary power supply board? I definitely know the anxiety of going for "first light", I've fried a lot of silicon.
hi
