Pallette

The World's First Open Source Tongue Computer Interface.
Empowerment for the Mobility Impaired.
Telekinesis with Your Tongue.

Similar projects worth following
Pallette, we believe, is the world's first open source tongue computer interface.
It is fully open source in hardware and software, with a guide for creating and using it at www.pallette.io.

Hidden from view, Pallette enables the mobility impaired to control technology using the tongue. Pallette uses infrared sensors to track tongue motion and a microphone to detect tongue taps.
It currently enables individuals to control computers, Android tablets, and Android phones as a bluetooth mouse. We also created an Android app which enables control of Sphero, using the phone as a hub. With community support, we hope Pallette will enable private interaction with the world as a means for empowering the mobility impaired.

And for the adventurous, telekinesis with the tongue.

Main Video

Pallette is a smart mouthguard that wirelessly controls a computer or a mobile device by tracking tongue movement.

It provides greater independence for the mobility impaired, and it is private, discreet, and affordable.

It is open sourced, all the design source files and instructions are available online. Moreover, it uses off-the-shelf components, so any developer/builder/hacker can follow the instructions and build Pallette.

We hope to establish a community around tongue-control technology, so the people in need can actually have access and benefit from it. Winning this competition will help us publicize this project, and hopefully achieve a minimum critical mass for this community!

Very impressive build! Any concerns about the lithium battery? I'd be nervous putting a mylar bag of explosive chemicals in my mouth.

Thanks! We don't use lithium for that reason. The batteries are silver oxide.

All of the mouth contact materials are biocompatible as well. Really tried to make this safe

Silver oxide? That's a new one on me. Very cool!
