Vertical Mouse Hibachi

On A Whim Mouse Conversion

Similar projects worth following

Having grown up thru the era of computer peripherals, it is rather astonishing I have not yet lost all use of my wrist (shh!). With the discomfort of ergonomic pads and feng shui -esk body manipulation ... I relied on self control to reduce use.

Then I was incidentally introduced to the 'vertical mouse' ... and circumstances what they are ... I desired one while unable to so disposably purchase one.

Immersed in boredom ... I put to work blade, solder and hot glue ... and butchered the living hell out of a mouse for sport.

Step 1

A common mouse species in the wild.

Step 2

Segregate the buttons from the tracking portion.
Connect n' solder the now separated PCB points.

Step 3

Slice thru the lower housing so as to preserve the wheel mounting surface and retain the counter button pressure.

Hot glue et' all ... spare no one.

As with any thing that alters traditional physical conditioning .. this has required some adaptation ... tho immediately there is a notable difference in comfort.

Once fully appreciating the angle with minute adjustments ... I will clean up the appearance ... probable thin housing cut from some clear plastic (packaging?) ... and settle in to this temporary solution.

Step 3+1
Minor aesthetics ..

  • 1 × Mouse (Non-Vertical)
  • 1 × Wire (Wirey)
  • 1 × Razor Blade (Blade, The Razor 3)
  • 1 × Hot Glue (Sultry)
  • 1 × Solder (No, You're So lder)

  • Featured?!

One may only presume this hack was featured bcz it is in fact .. a hack. Literally .. the actual stabby angular motion was achieved during the harming of this mouse.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Currently forming an attached wrist elevation to the mouse form as opposed to a set wrist rest bcz .. we go full cheese here.

Also after some use now .. considering moving or duplicating a (primary) mouse click to the thumb area bcz I have noticed that there is desire to squeeze when clicking but there is imbalance with the longer finger out stretched.

Annnddd .. leds?! Leds! There are 5V inside that could be improbably abuse I am certain of that. Stay tuned!

But does their model have options like corrugated or not corrugated? Felt lining? And not-water resistant?

Cool! I did almost the same thing over on Instructables, but it took about a week for me to finish mine, because instead of converting to a vertical mouse, I was converting to a trackball. Here's the link:

Holy smokes ... yours looks like you severed the arm off a Halo character. The ping-pong ball is what makes it legit for me :-)

Well, I needed something round of a moderate size that rolled well within a plastic ring, and I remembered how infuriating it is to catch a rolling ping-pong ball, so I test fit it in my ring and Viola! - it worked.
