Anemone

Freeform soldered space flower

Similar projects worth following
LED flower with multiplexed photoresistor compound eye.

The space anemone is made up of a freeform circuit above the surface, and a Raspberry Pi and power board below the surface. The freeform circuit consists of LEDs, an LED line driver, an ADC, a shift register, MOSFETs, photoresistors with heat-shrink and a thermistor. It is inspired by anemones (the flower) and sea anemones.

I sent the anemone to get photographed, but it got damaged in transit. I'm going to fix it and get it photographed again. Both sides of the anemone got bent over and it looks weird to me.

This older picture shows how the structure should look.

The anemone has a compound eye made from photoresistors. I used heat-shrink to hood them, and multiplexed them using a shift register, mosfets and an ADC. With some simple processing, it is able to tell the direction and speed of motion that occurs near by.

The compound eye is similar to previous compound eyes I made for other art pieces and experiments.

This has such a great look! What did you use for the clear dome?

Thank you so much! I made the dome by blowing acrylic sheet using an oven I built: https://hackaday.io/project/112181-plastics-blow-oven
