In homes, apartments and offices, dust is a constant plague, triggering health issues such as allergies and asthma. Dust contains fabric fibers, pollen, dead skin cells and a host of other materials. Motion, such as walking through a room, can launch these particles into the air. The obvious solution is to grab the vacuum cleaner, but an online search reveals research that shows vacuum cleaners, including a popular robot vacuum cleaner, actually launch small dust particles into the air making the problem worse. Dustbot is a robot with a novel circular movement pattern based on another one of my projects “UBIRS” designed to target and remove dust. While working with UBIRS, I started thinking the circular motion would make a great robot sweeper. The concept for Dustbot was born.
Dustbot will move based on the same technique as UBIRS. Below is one of UBIRS videos to demonstrate the circular motion.
