Big 7 segment display

A clock controlled by a ESP8266, which shows the time and functions as a stopwatch.

Similar projects worth following
I want to build a clock controlled by a ESP8266, which shows the time and functions as a stopwatch. The idea is to use two LEDs for each segment inside a glue tube, that way it acts like a neon light.

Perfore el tube de pegamento para que entre el led en cada extremo.

Then insert the glue stick with the led into the soda lid.

Join all the GND contacts in one wire; a join the positive contact of the led's of each segment.

I don't use a 74hc595 to control the led's, because a don't have four of them right now, instead i use a MC23017 to control the 7 segments.

The circuit is really basic:

The schematic is this

On the MCP23017 the pin's number 1 to 8 and 21 to 28 will be connected to the leds.

  • 1 × ESP8266
  • 2 × led by segment. 14 for digit
  • 1 × 100 ohm resistor
  • 2 × 10k resistor
  • 1 × MCP23017 Microprocessors, Microcontrollers, DSPs / IO Controllers

View all 7 components

  • 1
Testing the idea, with one digit
  • 2
I built the remaining three digits
