just thru a single usb plug. Adding a battery would  mane it too thick

You might want to look into lithium ceramic batteries depending on how much power you need. They look like they can be extremely thin.

yes could be cool. My idea was to generate curiosity, forcing people to plug it into a USB slot on a computer.  I'm on  the correction of version 1.2 this week end. I'll add 2 pads to solder a battery and possibly a chaging area if I have room
