SCC68070 + SCC66470 = SBC

Exploring the possibilities and limitations of SCC68070 + SCC66470 tandem

The aim of this project is to build a SBC based on SCC68070 + SCC66470. The SCC68070 is Motorola 68000 based highly integrated microprocessor (more info at https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Philips_68070). SCC66470 is the Video and Systems Controller. The main inspiration for the hardware is Philips CD-i but I'm not going to build CD-i like device. I'd like to explore the possibilities and limitations of SCC68070 + SCC66470 tandem. Because of other ongoing projects the progress will be slow.

Hi,
I also have a PM3585 and would be interested in understanding if there is a possibility of having a disassembled version of the system software with indications of the memory mapping.
I'm having some trouble entering the date correctly. (probable millennium bug)
I would be grateful if you would keep me informed of any news.
Thank you

Hi,

thanks for posting those datasheets. Im trying to reverse engineer some software for a logic analyzer i got a while back (like, 15 years ago) and finally got the courage to tackle my project.
if your still plan on doing something with em. but need some inspirational schematics https://bama.edebris.com/manuals/philips/pm3585/ is where i finally found the schematics for my analyzer and it turned out it uses a "68070 microprocessor (D102)" and "At Power-On the 68070 is reset by the Video and System Controller SCC66470 (D105)."

Altho the buildin monitor is grayscale (uses a Hsync, Vsync and intensity signal) the vga port is somewhat it color :D so, not as fancy as the CDi players, definitely color.
I havent found the roms dumped yet, but if unsourcable, i plan on dumping mine. (as the main software seems to make calls outside itself, kernel/bios maybe? definitely there is software displaying messages and seeking the floppy disk drive)

Hi,

A really nice find. I did not know this particular Logic analyzer is powered by 68070+66470, but if one think a bit, 68070 was a Philips thing, so it's like obvious ;)

Definitely those schematics will be inspirational. Thx

Unfortunately, there is only limited documentation for the 68070 and 66470. This appears to be a fail (technical and/or marketing).

Hi,

I have 2 prototype boards with SCC66470 and maybe a sample of SCC68070 with unknow software in eproms.

If you are interested in these boards, they are available for a swap.
