A few years ago I decided to experiment and make my own electronic drum kit using mesh heads and homemade triggers. I used an Arduino Nano to construct a trigger to midi converter box which enabled me to connect my drum kit up to my DAW/Sampler/Module. This works great and has enabled me to record my own drum parts on my tracks. One of the main draw backs I found was that I sometimes wanted to record at a set velocity and none of my equipment enabled me to do this.

The Velocimidi:
*5 pin midi in
*5 pin midi out
*Pot to set output velocity level
*5v micro usb for power/battery charging
*Internal 5v rechargeable battery
