If the iPad cover is closed, you do not know that charging has started. If you missed the correct place to locate the iPad, there will be no charging.

So I decided to use the LED that came with the electronics. I removed all the blue LEDs from the charger board so I do not get annoyed during the night with an unwanted light show. Instead I connected a red LED to one of the LED pads on the PCB with some wires so I could locate it where I need it.

In addition I made a 1.3mm drill to the front, inserted a thin flexible light guide and routed the red light to top. So I'm able to see the charging status on the top next to the iPad laying on the charging spot.

The small red light can be seen on the pictures. If the iPad gets charged, it "breathes", if there is nothing to charge, it is steady on.
