I enjoy playing dancing games such as Dance Dance Revolution, In the Groove, Pump it Up to name a few. At home you can play these games using software such as Open ITG or Stepmania. Me and my friends have made several DIY dance pads to be able to play these games at home.
My dance pads use a combination of plywood, commercial sensors, custom circuit boards and LED strips.
My older dance pads use either hacked commercial game controllers or off-the-shelf microcontroller boards. I decided to make my own board specifically designed for creating dance pads.
With its 5 switch inputs and neopixel LED output, this USB HID board is ideal for creating dance pads. Because of the ATMega16u2 microcontroller with dedicated USB device peripheral, this board can act as a USB gamepad.
