This is a spin-off of a larger project I'm currently working on, and because I always wanted to have a real nixie clock, I created a new type of Faux-Nixie.
It has an array of 7 leds which create a 5x7 matrix with which you can display any latin charater, so you're not limited to only digits.

This is superb, I had similar ponderings many years ago and bought a roll of phospherescent vynal and a reel of SMD UV LEDs but that is about as far as it got before work and life descended. This is really nice though, thanks for the inspiration!

Great look, love the fact that you can already see the glow fading on the dots forming the leading edge. And "Glixie" is a great name too!
Thanks, The afterglow is a bit of a nuisance, especially when a digit is displayed over a previous different one. So i'm now trying to get the timing/intensity right in different lighting conditions and testing the use of filters.

you can 'erase' the glow with infrared light.
just add a line of IR-LEDs before your UV ones..
i tested this some days ago with some old glow in the dark stars and it is really a fascinating effect!!
(i tested this after i saw the https://hackaday.io/project/169462-uv-glow-in-the-dark-plot-clock and thought about building my own ;-)...)
That is a superb effect! I've seen numerous moving phosphorescent display but the drum effect has one of the best overall looks. Awesome :-D

Really great project. But "Glixie"??? I guess if you can call a wheeled vehicle a "hoverboard" because of some remote resemblance, then you can call a piece of particle board a "Pleenex", because it's a planar sheet of wood fibers, and you can call a piece of chalk a "Chixie", because it is capable of producing graphical representations of numbers. Kids these days.
